Well, it’s that time of year again – cooler weather, celebration, and that feeling of dread that so many of us feel when faced with big holiday gatherings full of social pressure and off-limit foods at every turn. Here are the strategies I’ll be using this year, along with other ideas for having an amazingly filling holiday that honors your food constraints and choices.

In the first of a series on GF/DF flatbreads and pancakes, I share a recipe for French crepes that use cornstarch instead of wheat flour. As a result, they are lighter, fluffier, and definitely delicious. And, of course, they are gluten free!

I finished Nicole Mones’ The Last Chinese Chef last week. Two ideas, in particular, from the book struck me. The first, the idea of simplicity – how simple food nurtures and comforts us. The second, is the relationship that food creates between cook and eater, and how that relationship can delight both. To celebrate these ideas, I’ve prepared a simple meal of delicious ingredients that I hope will delight you and those who eat with you. Enjoy.
